Daniel MILLE – musician-accordionist
An accomplished musician of many talents
Accordionist Daniel MILLE explores many musical styles, always bringing a remarkable sensitivity and creativity. Throughout his career, he has played with Barbara, Jacques Higelin, Maurane, Richard Bona and many others. Until recently, he collaborated with Jean-Louis Trintignant, on the Trintignant, Mille, Piazzola project.
He has several self-titled albums to his discography, and in 2006 he won the prestigious Victoire du jazz award for best instrumentalist in the field.
Born in Grenoble in 1958, accordionist Daniel MILLE began his musical career at the Conservatoire National and the Ecole Normale de Musique. A musician open to all trends, he accompanies artists from diverse horizons, including Barbara, Jacques Higelin, Maurane or Salif Keïta, Lokua Kanza, Richard Bona or Nina Hagen.
In 1993, his debut album Sur Les Quais won the Django d’or for best first jazz album. Daniel MILLE was immediately recognized as a soloist of the first rank with the following albums, Les Heures Tranquilles in 1995 and Le Funambule in 1999. The same year, he composed the music and performed in Louis Aragon’s play La Valse des adieux, which took him to the stage in France.
Alongside other theatrical experiences (Apollinaire in 2004), recording sessions and opening acts for Christophe and Zazie, he released the albums Entre Chien et Loup (2001) and Après La Pluie (2005) on Universal Music Jazz. In 2006, Daniel MILLE won the Victoire du Jazz award for best instrumentalist, and in 2009, his opus L’Attente was widely acclaimed.
A true musical explorer, Daniel MILLE collaborated with Dorsaf Hamdani in 2014 on the album Barbara – Fairouz, a tribute to these two great voices from different cultures.
