PROGRAMMING 2023
VISUAL ARTS
L’Art en jeu – 2 outstanding exhibitions and a fun game for all ages.
(June 1 to October 1, 2023 – Launch June 3)
Fifteen (15) painters and sculptors, with various techniques and styles, participate in two continuous interactive visual arts exhibitions where the visitor will be called upon to scrutinize the works to discover details that often escape a first glance.
The highlight of these exhibitions is a “search and find” type quiz designed for everyone, which has proven its worth in renowned museums such as the Musée du Château de Versailles and the Musée de la Civilisation. The emphasis is on mixing styles, materials and techniques to offer surprising discoveries about the artist’s work and approach, and a diverse and stimulating experience for the participants.
Magnificent prizes offered by local merchants will be given to participants who answer the quiz and are chosen by a random draw once a month.
Each exhibition lasts 2 months (June 1 to July 31 and August 1 to October 1). There are also visual art workshops on Sundays from 10am to 12pm, for the whole family, once a month. Ask about it, places are limited.
• All of this takes place at La Cie Vilandré Pub in North Hatley;
• A launch of the exhibitions will take place on Saturday June 3rd at 1:30 pm at the Vilandré Pub.
LITERARY ARTS
L’Atelier d’écriture (writing workshop) – the passion of writing, the joy of sharing. ( in French this year)
(August 2023 – register now)
It can be a short story, a novel, poetry, an essay, an exploration of the author’s personal universe, in short, anything that animates and carries the author’s pen – the keyboard, open to all citizens regardless of writing style.
Each session consists of group discussions and individual meetings with the workshop leader, Robert Lalonde, to receive advice according to each individual’s path.
A man of transmission and sharing, he has worked as a writing workshop master for over 30 years; in creative writing at McGill University, the Université du Québec de Rimouski and Trois-Rivières, at Camp littéraire Félix, RAFA in Banff… He acts as a consultant and mentor to authors of all genres. He has also directed literary collections for Quebec publishers.
His lectures and his numerous columns in the media are highly appreciated. His vision of the world and of literature, his erudition and his ability to transmit the love of literature, his generosity in accompanying authors, his humanity run through all his work and fascinate all those lucky enough to rub shoulders with him.

Wippi-lit – Reading is rereading our lives with the words of others.
(August to November 2023 – register now)
Arts-Cultures Massawippi invites the citizens of Hatley to literary encounters that are off the beaten path!
Hosted by renowned writer Robert Lalonde – 33 books, many translated into English, Italian, Spanish, Romanian, recipient of numerous awards – resident of North Hatley. The meetings will bring together 10 readers around five works of all genres – novels, short stories, essays, poetry, thrillers, writers’ notebooks, etc.
In contrast to traditional reading circles, Robert Lalonde’s animation echoes the work read, evoking the path a particular book has taken within us, and how it has – or hasn’t – helped us to see the world and ourselves in a new, clearer, more compassionate, freer and more stimulating way. More engaging.
Going further than simply demonstrating whether or not we liked a particular book, we try to decipher the author’s intention. Not through a process of academic analysis, but through our own experience, our own history, our own emotions and thoughts. And our own personal library.
The choice of works will be made, among other things, according to what the participants read (in English or in French) but also to the discoveries that Robert Lalonde will propose.
Participants will benefit from the support of Librairie Appalaches, which is offering a 10% discount to ACM members and participants.
- The five meetings will be held at the Hatley Community Center;
- 2 groups of 5 literary encounters:
- 1 group with publications in French, on the 2nd Tuesdays of each month; from 10:00 am to 12:30pm; from August 8 to November 28, 2023;
- 1 group with English-language publications; 2nd Sundays of each month; 2:00pm to 4:30pm; August 13 to December 3, 2023
