KARÈYA – musician-composer-performer
Born into music
Karèya has created rich, playful and dynamic sound worlds on the contemporary scene. Living in the Eastern Townships for the past dozen years, she is now also active in chanson and trad music.
Her hybrid approach integrates composition, vocals, noise, performance and improvisation. To this we can add her new instrument, the double bass.
Karèya studied composition and classical singing at the Université de Montréal. She uses electroacoustics and the textures of her voice to create new sounds and bring out the musicality of the world around us.
Karèya has composed over twenty-five pieces that have been premiered and performed at the Musée d’Art Contemporain, Museum of Civilization, Monument National, Théâtre LaChapelle, Théâtre Hector Charland, Sala Rossa, Colgate University, Usine C.
A member of Arts-Cultures Massawippi, she met author-author Robert Lalonde and joined the Cosse-tu penses mon p’tit bonhomme project.
