Arts-Cultures Massawippi’s booth at the North Hatley farmers’ market was the venue for three visual arts workshops, where many children were able to express their imagination and put their talent to work, under the watchful eye of experienced artists.
In early August, cartoonist and illustrator Pascal Biet held another of his famous workshops : Dessine-moi une histoire (Draw me a story), during which children have fun creating characters and imagining their adventures, while Pascal draws, page after page, the unfolding of the story. Afterwards, Pascal gives each child a coloring book made up of the drawings from the invented story. This activity is a resounding success every time!
In early September, at the initiative of Line Fafard, painter, sculptor and musician, a dozen children spent an afternoon making mandala cards, using rulers, compasses and pencils to imagine a motif of their choice. Then they painted the designs they had created with colored pencils. Youngsters and parents alike enjoy this game of imagination and invention immensely.
Then it was artist Lyne Tremblay ‘s turn to lead a painting and self-expression workshop, which brought together several people at the public market for an afternoon of gouache painting, using shapes, motifs and colors to express their emotions and translate their imaginations. Once again, the activity gave rise to lively exchanges and an impressive production of spontaneous works!
